About Me

Hello, my name is Richard de Lullington and I am an Outsider Artist, (apparently!) Well, this is where it all began for me, this mysterious, inviting world of art. In 1997 I was in the Maudsley Hospital, in London, being investigated why I was experiencing memory loss & other related symptoms. After 3 weeks I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/dementia. As I was 49, & this disease goes faster as a rule with younger people, the consultant told me to ‘go home & make the most of my life because I could be dead within 8 years.’ It was at this time that I started experimenting, doodling with felt tip pens,  painting with food colourings on paper or cardboard. I had no training & little interest in art generally.

At this point there is much more I could say with details of my progress but perhaps I will say that another time. In the year 2000 I moved with my family to another home. The garden had nothing to speak of. It was right on the main road & my adventure with creativity expanded into creating simple structures with bamboo & with willow branches,  which I planted as cuttings from a neighbour’s garden (with her permission). The garden took on it’s own character which caused interest with the passing public. Some of these people were artists themselves, some were journalists & others were members of the public who knew what they liked & would get a favourable, happy feeling from what they saw in my garden. When this started happening I started to keep a Visitor’s Book. One member of the public who visited is Professor Roger Cardinal who is an authority on Outsider Art & contributes to the Raw Vision magazine. At present he is in the process of writing an article about me to go in it. For any further information on Outsider Art visit the Raw Vision website.

This website is a new venture for me, (which incidentally has been set up by a neighbour who suggested the idea & as he is in the business of websites etc. here we are. Thanks, Steve).

So this is a very brief account & explanation of what this website is all about. I am indebted to my wife, Lynda, for putting this all together for me.

Hopefully, soon you will see & enjoy plenty of my creative work, pictures, songs, poems & garden sculptures. I like to feel that what I’m doing is contributing to other’s quality of life so I invite you to watch this space.

At present I do not intend to sell any original works of art.

Looking up & looking out,

Richard de Lullington

Hi Richard, you may or may not remember me – last time we met, you took me on your motorbike to Wilmington, in 1976!

I have beside me on my desk my favourite Rupert book, which says inside, ‘This book belongs to Richard Woods.’ This is one of my most treasured books, but my own stepgrandchildren are now 15 and 20, and not very interested in Rupert anyway. I wondered if you might like to have it back for your own children, or their children. I would be happy to send it to you if you would like it.
You can get me on jjpetgod@optusnet.com.au. Or you should, Martin Timperley says he has emailed me but I didn’t get any messages.
Perhaps it might be best to also send to jjpetgod@aol.com

If not, it will still be my favourite Rupert book and part of my estate, haha.

With best wishes for a Happy Christmas, Richard, and happy memories
    Janet Pett
